Edinburgh Art Festival highlights queer history and radical voices

The Edinburgh Art Festival (EAF) has commenced, running through August 30 across various galleries, museums, and public spaces in the Scottish capital. The event aims to highlight underrepresented perspectives and radical voices within the visual arts.

A major highlight is the exhibition ‘Love Bites Back’ by photographer and artist Del LaGrace Volcano, located at the festival's new permanent venue on Constitution Street in the Leith district. The exhibition features selections from the ‘Queer Archive of Resistance,’ documenting British queer identities, desires, and cultures through photographs taken between 1982 and 1995.

Festival director Kim McAleese stated that the EAF seeks to provide a platform for artists who may not typically have one, noting the importance of diverse voices during a period of rapid and sometimes violent political change.
