Edinburgh College partners with Mauritius for electric vehicle training

Edinburgh College has hosted a delegation of technical trainers from Mauritius to develop expertise in heavy electric vehicle maintenance. The international partnership, funded by the British Council’s ‘Going Global Partnerships’ programme, aims to support Mauritius as the nation transitions toward cleaner public transport and electric buses.

Four staff members from Saint Gabriel Technical College and the Mauritian Institute of Training and Development participated in an intensive three-day course at the college’s Sighthill campus. The participants earned a UK Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) Level 3 certificate. The training utilized specialized equipment, including a Ford Transit electric vehicle trainer designed to simulate real-world mechanical faults.

The program also included visits to the college’s Midlothian campus to observe engineering workshop layouts and virtual reality welding technology. Additionally, the delegation engaged with the college’s approaches to equality, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of STEM subjects.
