Edinburgh Festival Fringe features 3,600 shows from 71 countries

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is transforming the Scottish capital into a massive global stage throughout August. This year's edition features 3,649 shows across 258 venues, with participants representing 71 different countries. The programming includes over 53,000 performances and 1,748 premieres, covering genres such as comedy, theatre, music, dance, circus, and magic.

Comedy remains the largest category with 1,401 titles, followed by theatre with 1,025. The festival's themes range from artificial intelligence and social class to mental health and geopolitical uncertainty. The event coincides with the Edinburgh International Festival and the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

As the city experiences heavy crowds and road closures, particularly around the Royal Mile, local guides suggest navigating side streets to avoid congestion. The festival also features high-profile appearances, including former First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, who participated in discussions during the event.
