Edinburgh festivals see rising international tourism and arts interest

The Edinburgh festivals are experiencing significant international interest, driven by both rising tourism and strategic arts delegations. Data indicates that international flight arrivals to Edinburgh for August are expected to increase by 16% year-on-year, with leisure travelers making up 98% of these arrivals. Key visitor markets include Italy, the United States, Germany, Spain, and France, while emerging markets such as China and Saudi Arabia show rapid growth.

Simultaneously, the British Council is hosting the Edinburgh International Performing Arts Delegation (IPAD). This initiative brings together 26 commissioners, producers, and arts leaders from 13 countries—including Australia, China, Egypt, India, Japan, and Ukraine—to discover UK theatre and dance. The program aims to facilitate international collaborations, touring partnerships, and new commissions, helping UK artists connect with global decision-makers to overcome funding and development imbalances.
