Edinburgh Fringe 2026 draws crowds as Leith eateries and guide spotlight festival

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe runs from 7–31 August 2026, featuring 3,649 shows across 258 venues and drawing more than four million visitors. Performers will come from 71 countries, delivering a total of 53,884 performances. The event is centred on four major hubs – Pleasance, Summerhall, Gilded Balloon and Assembly – and includes a mix of headline acts and emerging talent.

Beyond the main festival venues, neighbourhoods such as Leith and Tollcross have become popular alternatives for diners seeking a quieter experience. Leith now hosts Scotland’s leading dining scene, highlighted by Michelin‑acclaimed chef Barry Bryson’s restaurant, which offers a summer menu of coastal specialties. The Blackbird bar in Tollcross has completed a £100,000 refurbishment, adding a new cocktail program and an all‑day food menu. The floating Fingal Hotel at Alexandra Dock also offers a five‑star dining setting on the Water of Leith.
