Edinburgh Fringe features industry debate and diverse theatrical shows

The Edinburgh Fringe festival features a variety of theatrical productions and ongoing industry tensions. Ed Bartlam, one of the founders of the venue operator Underbelly, has criticized the Edinburgh Fringe Society, describing it as “bloated” and calling for a return to basics. This critique suggests the Society should focus less on providing equal access for all performers and more on supporting large-scale venues.

Performances at the festival include ‘Hame. Teeth. CLUB.’ by Iona Bremner Productions, a play exploring working-class life in Midlothian; ‘The Powerpop Girls: A New Diva Religion’ by Locked In Thought Theatre, a comedic workplace drama; ‘Room 1219’ by Keystone Theatricals, a biographical piece about silent-film icon Roscoe ‘Fatty’ Arbuckle; and ‘Halfway Home’ by Deliverance Theatre, which examines the lives of three working-class Scots.
