Edinburgh International Film Festival examines cinematic point of view
At the Edinburgh International Film Festival, filmmakers are increasingly exploring the concept of point of view (POV) to address complex social and political questions regarding perspective and observation.
One notable example is Lance Hammer’s film, ‘Queen at Sea’, which utilizes multiple perspectives to navigate a family drama set in London. The film examines the competing viewpoints of various characters and institutions—including police, doctors, and caregivers—surrounding a sensitive situation involving dementia and consent. Rather than pitting these perspectives against one another, the film seeks a compassionate understanding of the situation.
