Edineț authorities approve tax increases for neglected properties
Municipal authorities in Edineț, Moldova, have approved a regulation that could increase property taxes by up to 300% for owners of neglected buildings and land. The measure applies to the municipality of Edineț as well as the villages of Alexandreni and Gordineștii Noi.
A special commission will be responsible for identifying and evaluating the condition of properties. Once identified, owners will be notified and given 60 days to repair buildings and 30 days to tidy up land. In exceptional cases, a single extension may be granted if there is no immediate threat to public safety.
If the issues are not remediated, the municipal council may decide to increase the tax. The increase will apply specifically to the neglected property rather than the owner's entire portfolio. The final percentage will be determined based on the severity and duration of the neglect, the danger created, and the owner's conduct.
