Edineț district flooded following heavy rain and wind

Heavy rainfall and strong winds caused flooding and traffic disruptions across several localities in the Edineț district on Saturday, August 22. In the municipality of Edineț, water accumulated rapidly on streets and sidewalks, while wind gusts broke branches and downed trees.

In Trinca, witnesses reported that the storm included hail and high winds. While the intense downpour lasted approximately 30 minutes, the volume of water was significant enough to affect local infrastructure and power lines.

The storm resulted in a fatality; a 37-year-old Border Police employee was electrocuted while attempting to remove fallen branches from a fence at his home.

In contrast to the flooding in the north, other regions such as Fălești have been experiencing prolonged drought, and Chișinău has maintained high temperatures reaching 36 degrees Celsius.
