Edirne agricultural workers endure extreme heat during baling season

In the Büyükdöllük village of Edirne, agricultural workers are nearing the end of the harvesting and baling season that began in late June. Despite extreme temperatures ranging between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius, laborers continue to transport and stack hay bales to earn a living.

Büyükdöllük Village Head Ahmet Kezer noted that the season is expected to conclude within a few days. He highlighted a labor shortage, observing that younger generations are increasingly avoiding this type of manual work. Much of the current labor is provided by workers traveling from Uzunköprü, who are provided with local accommodation during their stay.

Workers earn approximately 25,000 Turkish Lira for moving 1,000 bales, a sum they divide among themselves. Laborers, including Tayfun Bozkurt, expressed that while the intense heat makes the work exceptionally difficult, the necessity of earning money forces them to continue despite the harsh conditions.
