Edirne commemorates the Battle of Sırpsındığı

A 4-kilometer commemorative walk was held in Sarayakpınar village, near Edirne, to mark the Battle of Sırpsındığı. This historical conflict is noted as the first major battle won by the Ottoman Empire against Crusader forces.

The event was organized through a collaboration between the Edirne Municipality and the Plastic Arts Community Association. Participants honored the site by laying carnations at the Sırpsındığı Monument.

During the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Kerem İşcanoğlu, President of the Plastic Arts Association and faculty member at Trakya University, emphasized the importance of teaching these historical victories to younger generations. He noted the strategic significance of the region, mentioning that the area also includes Kartaltepe, a site of major importance during the Balkan Wars.
