Edirne youth wrestlers claim Turkish championship, hailed at home

The Minikler Turkey Wrestling Championship was staged in Ankara from 16‑26 July, drawing more than 10,000 participants from 81 provinces. In the under‑13 girls category, the Edirne team won the team title, securing a total of 22 medals – six gold, five silver and eight bronze – and also achieved three fifth‑place finishes.

Upon returning to Edirne, the young wrestlers were welcomed at the Mimar Sinan Sports Hall garden with drums, zurna, torches and Turkish flags. Families, citizens and members of the Edirne police department cheered the athletes. Şamil Doğu Delen, the Turkish Wrestling Federation’s Edirne representative, praised the 22 medals and 11 final appearances, noting recent successes in the province. Team coach Habil Kara thanked the trainers, supporters and the enthusiastic crowd for their role in the historic victory.
