Edirne Palace restoration set for October 2027 opening
The restoration and revitalization of the Edirne Palace in Turkey is scheduled to be completed by October 2027. AK Party Edirne Deputy Fatma Aksal announced that the project, which aims to restore the historic site to its former glory, is progressing under a five-year master plan established by the Presidency of National Palaces.
Originally constructed starting in 1450 during the reign of Ottoman Sultan Murad II and completed under Mehmed the Conqueror, the palace suffered significant damage over centuries due to wars, earthquakes, and fires. While structures such as the Cihannüma Pavilion, Justice Pavilion, Kum Pavilion, hammam, and kitchen have survived, much of the complex was lost to time.
Following years of collaborative excavation and restoration efforts involving the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Edirne Governorship, and Trakya University, the project was transferred to the Presidency of National Palaces in October 2022. Current works involve a multidisciplinary team of architects, engineers, and restorers working to transform the area spanning from the Cihannüma Pavilion to the Mahmudiye Barracks.
