Edirne retirees protest TÜİK over inflation data

The Edirne Retirees Association organized a protest in front of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) Edirne Regional Directorate to highlight the economic hardships faced by pensioners. Participants gathered to demand that inflation data reflect the actual cost of living experienced by retirees.

During the demonstration, Association President Ahmet Ziya Yaz argued that millions of retirees are struggling to survive below the poverty line due to high inflation and income inequality. Yaz criticized the discrepancy between TÜİK's official inflation figures and the reality of rising food and fuel costs. He stated that if inflation data from ENAG were considered, pension increases would need to be significantly higher, suggesting the minimum pension should be raised to 31,000 lira to ensure a dignified life. Yaz emphasized that retirees are not seeking social aid or charity, but rather the fair compensation of the premiums they paid throughout their working lives.
