Edirne's 1. Murat Anadolu Lisesi operates in 133-year-old historic building

Students at 1. Murat Anadolu Lisesi in Edirne, Turkey, continue their education within a historic building that has served various roles since its construction in 1893. Located in the Kaleiçi district, the structure was originally built by Poles as the ‘Pulak School’ and functioned as a Polish minority school until 1912.

Throughout its long history, the building has undergone numerous transformations. It served as a hospital during the Balkan Wars (1912–1913), a girls' teacher training college starting in 1915, and a priest school. In 1927, it was repurposed as a tobacco warehouse by the Ministry of Monopoly. The building's connection to education was restored in 1958 when the Ministry of National Education purchased it.

Following its use as a boys' teacher training school and later a middle school, the site has hosted 1. Murat Lisesi since the 1984–1985 academic year. Today, the facility includes 29 classrooms, chemistry laboratories, a library, and various social and technological spaces, preserved to maintain its historical significance for future generations.
