Edmond girl charged with murder after shooting brother
An 11-year-old girl has been taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder following the fatal shooting of her 15-year-old brother in Edmond, Oklahoma.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of September 9, 2026, at a residence on Lapwing Road. Responding officers from the Edmond Police Department discovered the teenage boy deceased at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head. The girl was the only other person present in the home at the time of the shooting. According to reports, the girl contacted her mother by phone to state that someone had shot her brother; the mother was not at the residence when the gunfire occurred.
The suspect was booked into a juvenile detention facility in the early hours of September 10. Authorities have not yet disclosed a motive or explained how the minor gained access to a firearm. Due to legal protections regarding minors, the identities of both the suspect and the victim are being withheld. The Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office will review the evidence to determine the course of formal prosecution.
