Edmond Yawo Amekuse ordained as Bishop of Kpalimé

Mgr Edmond Yawo Amekuse was ordained as the third Bishop of the Kpalimé Diocese on August 29, 2026. The episcopal ordination took place at the Immaculée Conception parish in Tsihinu.

The ceremony was led by Mgr Rubén Darío Ruiz Mainardi, the Apostolic Nuncio to Benin and Togo, assisted by Mgr Benoît Alowonou and Mgr Prosper Kontiebo. The event was attended by high-ranking officials, including Professor Komi Selom Klassou, President of the National Assembly, who represented President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé. Other attendees included members of the government, the diplomatic corps, and various military and religious authorities.

In his inaugural message, Mgr Amekuse adopted the motto “Adiutores gaudii vestri” (Collaborators of your joy). He emphasized the importance of social cohesion and the relationship between the Church and public authorities in serving the common good. He called for national unity, stating, “Our country needs bridge builders more than wall builders,” and urged a focus on trust, justice, and truth.
