Edmond Yawo Amekuse to be ordained Bishop of Kpalimé

Mgr Edmond Yawo Amekuse is set to be ordained as the third bishop of the Diocese of Kpalimé on August 29 and 30, 2026. Appointed by the Holy See on June 26, he succeeds Mgr Benoît Comlan Messan Alowonou, who has led the diocese since 2001.

His episcopal motto, ‘Adiutores gaudii vestri’ (‘We are co-operators of your joy’), reflects a vision of pastoral ministry centered on collaboration and proximity to the faithful rather than domination. Mgr Amekuse has identified several key priorities for his mandate, including the promotion of rigor and transparency in the management of diocesan structures, parishes, and works.

Furthermore, he aims to strengthen ecclesial communion between priests, consecrated individuals, and laity. Regarding the social and political landscape, he stated that the Church should not engage in politics or replace political leaders, but should instead serve as a ‘school of peace, reconciliation, and life’ to help citizens make informed choices. The ordination ceremony will be presided over by the Apostolic Nuncio, Mgr Rubén Darío Ruiz Mainardi.
