Edmonton and Calgary sign mutual‑aid pact to tackle storm damage
The City of Edmonton and the City of Calgary have entered a mutual‑aid agreement after back‑to‑back severe weather events damaged Edmonton’s urban tree canopy. Over 3,000 storm‑related incidents, including hazardous downed limbs, strained Edmonton’s forestry crews and contractors. Certified Calgary forestry crews will arrive on July 29 and work alongside Edmonton staff for up to a week to remove debris, mitigate hazards and address Dutch elm disease in fallen elm branches. The municipalities said the cooperation showcases Alberta cities supporting each other during emergencies.
