Edmonton clothing repair event promotes sustainability
The Human Ecology Clothing Repair Café, a monthly event held at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, has seen growing attendance as residents seek to combat fast fashion and rising costs.
Participants use the gathering to mend beloved items, such as repairing holes in trousers or altering garment lengths, to reduce textile waste and environmental impact. Event co-ordinator Samantha Barrios Mendoza noted that interest in mending has increased over the past year, potentially driven by the current affordability crisis, as people look for ways to extend the life of their clothing rather than purchasing new items.
