Edmonton hosts major cultural festivals in August 2026

Edmonton is hosting several major cultural events in August 2026, headlined by the 45th annual Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival. Running from August 13 to August 23, the festival features 209 theatre productions across 37 venues, including comedy, drama, and experimental works. A significant addition this year is pêhonân, a new Indigenous-led gathering space designed with guidance from Elders and Knowledge Keepers to focus on storytelling, Métis culture, and traditional knowledge.

Other upcoming city celebrations include the Edmonton Mural Festival, which runs from August 15 to September 15 to highlight local Alberta artists and beautify the city. Additionally, the Edmonton Dragon Festival will take place in Chinatown from August 21 to August 23, featuring international dance championships and live Cantonese music.
