Edmonton infill development sparks debate over zoning
Debate continues in Edmonton regarding the city’s zoning rules and the rise of multi-unit infill developments. The provincial government is reportedly paying attention to the city’s approach to neighbourhood redevelopment.
In the McQueen neighbourhood, developer Terry Paranych intervened in a controversial project slated for an eightplex near 146 Street and 110 Avenue. Following concerns from the community regarding a lack of consultation, Paranych purchased the property from a developer to change the project's scope. He plans to construct a 2,500-square-foot, two-story single-family craftsman-style home instead of the multi-unit build.
Paranych stated he has intervened in approximately half a dozen similar cases over the past year where residents expressed concern over mid-block, multi-unit infill projects.
