Edmonton police arrest youth in fatal shooting of 16-year-old

A youth has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Jazmin Dhesi in northeast Edmonton. The incident occurred early Sunday morning, August 16, 2026, near the intersection of 139 Avenue and 32 Street in the Hairsine community.

Police responded to reports of shots fired outside a condominium complex just before 7 a.m. Despite efforts by emergency responders, Dhesi died at the scene. The Edmonton Police Service homicide team is leading the investigation. While an arrest has been confirmed, authorities have withheld specific details regarding the suspect due to their status as a youth.

Family members described Dhesi as a “bright light” and a kind, caring individual who was well-loved by her friends and siblings. A Go Fund Me campaign has been established to support her family during this time.
