Edmonton Police Seek Public Help After Fatal Shooting of Hiwa Palani

On July 28, 2026, 39‑year‑old Hiwa Palani was shot at a business near 112 Avenue and 149 Street in Edmonton, Alberta. He was taken to hospital where he later died, and police have classified the incident as a homicide.

Investigators released images of two suspect vehicles – a grey 2009 Mazda 3 and a red 2007 Ford Fusion – that were allegedly used during the attack, driven to separate locations, and set on fire. Both cars showed front‑bumper damage. After abandoning the vehicles, the suspect fled on foot into the nearby river valley. Police are asking anyone with eyewitness information, dash‑cam or CCTV footage to contact them.
