Legal rulings follow fatal dog attacks in UK and Canada

In separate legal proceedings in the United Kingdom and Canada, individuals have faced sentencing following fatal dog attacks.

In Bristol, UK, 24-year-old Kelcie Reed was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court to 18 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months, after pleading guilty to being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control. The incident, which occurred in February 2025, resulted in the death of her 19-year-old cousin, Morgan Dorsett, following an attack by an American Bully named Prince. The judge also ordered Reed to undergo mental health treatment.

In Edmonton, Canada, Crystal MacDonald faces potential sentencing following the death of 11-year-old Kache Grist in April 2024. MacDonald was found guilty of criminal negligence causing death after her two Cane Corsos killed the boy. While the Crown is seeking five years in prison, the defense is requesting three-and-a-half years of house arrest. The dogs involved reportedly had a history of violence prior to the incident.

Separately, in Canada, the federal Conservative Party has launched the ‘Conservatives for Canada’ campaign. Led by MP Dane Lloyd, the initiative aims to encourage Albertans to vote to remain in Canada during an upcoming referendum on October 19, where citizens will decide whether to remain a province or begin the process of separation.
