Poland’s oldest resident Edmund Woźniak dies at age 102

Edmund Woźniak, the oldest resident of the Gostyn municipality in western Poland, died on 28 July 2026. He was born on 8 September 1923 in Góra and would have turned 103 in September. After moving with his family to Bork Wielkopolski in 1931, he spent the bulk of his life there before relocating to Gostyn in 2012.

Woźniak spent more than three decades employed by the Polish railway system, beginning as a railway dispatcher during World War II and later serving as a financial inspector in various regional offices. He retired in 1984. He married Genowefa Kowalczyk in 1946; the couple had a daughter and two sons. His wife died in 2012, after which he lived with his daughter. Family members, including grandchildren, great‑grandchildren and great‑great‑grandchildren, attended his funeral and remembered him as an optimistic and cheerful person.
