Edmundo González demands immediate elections in Venezuela
Opposition figure Edmundo González Urrutia has called for presidential elections to be scheduled as soon as possible, emphasizing the need for full guarantees to ensure all Venezuelans can exercise their right to vote freely. González stated that while an election call is not the sole component of a political transition, it is a fundamental step that cannot be delayed further.
His demands include the renewal of the National Electoral Council and the restoration of political rights for figures such as María Corina Machado. These statements coincide with planned protests on October 22 aimed at demanding a clear electoral timeline.
Separately, political strategist Juan José Rendón has sparked controversy by questioning González's status, asserting that the opposition figure was technically a representative for María Corina Machado rather than an elected president. Rendón's comments come amid ongoing dialogue processes between the government and the 2015 National Assembly.
