Edmundo González supports new Venezuelan media and data initiatives

Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia has expressed support for two new civil society initiatives, Pulso Venezuela and the Red de Periodismo y Medios Independientes (REMI), aimed at combating censorship and opacity in the country.

Pulso Venezuela serves as a data concentration platform covering human rights, justice, disinformation, and the state of the university sector. REMI is a collaborative network involving 13 media outlets and organizations designed to strengthen independent journalism, fact-checking, and freedom of expression.

González Urrutia stated that these tools are essential for citizen oversight and that the responsibility to document and preserve information has fallen to journalists, NGOs, and academic institutions due to a lack of institutional guarantees. He emphasized that access to reliable information is a fundamental pillar for preserving civil liberties and maintaining a functioning democracy.
