Nigerian states mark 35th anniversaries with development updates

Several Nigerian states are marking their 35th anniversaries of creation, prompting reflections on development and governance. In Edo State, Governor Monday Okpebholo highlighted the SHINE Agenda, focusing on infrastructure, healthcare, and energy projects like the 100-megawatt power project at Ologbo.

Delta State leaders, including Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Speaker Dennis Guwor, celebrated the state's progress in urban development and stability. A major infrastructure milestone includes the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) commencing the reconstruction of a 15.4-kilometre stretch of the Benin-Sapele Expressway.

In Abia State, Governor Alex Otti reported spending over N500 million in August to support vulnerable residents and organ transplant patients. Meanwhile, Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas acknowledged ongoing challenges in water, electricity, and healthcare despite the state's 35-year milestone.

Other regional updates include Jigawa State's focus on agricultural and educational advancement, Gombe State's push for citizen-centred budgeting, and Kogi State's potential for tourism and mining development. In political news, APC governors have pledged to secure President Bola Tinubu's re-election in 2027.
