Edo Governor Okpebholo pledges 2.5 million votes for Tinubu in 2027
Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has pledged to deliver 2.5 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. During a recent march in Benin City, Okpebholo attributed the potential for such support to the impact of federal economic reforms, including the removal of the fuel subsidy, which he claims has funded state projects in healthcare and education.
Data from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) shows that Edo State has 2,865,263 registered voters for the 2027 cycle, an increase of approximately 14.6 percent since 2023. Achieving the governor’s target would require securing roughly 87.3 percent of the total electorate.
While some analysts argue the target is mathematically improbable based on the 2023 results—where Tinubu polled 144,471 votes compared to Peter Obi’s 331,163—supporters suggest that the current political landscape and the administration’s developmental projects may shift voter behavior significantly by 2027.
