Edo State moves to resolve Ossiomo Power Company disruption
The Edo State government has launched efforts to resolve a prolonged operational shutdown at the Ossiomo Power Company, which has negatively impacted electricity supply to businesses, government facilities, and local communities. The disruption has forced the state to reconnect some facilities to the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to manage the shortage.
The shutdown is reportedly linked to an ownership dispute between Ossiomo Power and its Chinese partner, CCETC, as well as interference from local youths at the Ologbo facility. Commissioner for Power Paul Usenbo stated that the company previously generated approximately 11MW of power. He emphasized the need to protect critical infrastructure from vandalism and urged all parties to respect legal and contractual obligations to restore full operations.
