Edo State selects 10 reciters for national Qur’anic competition
The Edo State Committee on Qur’anic Recitation Competition (Musaabaqah) has selected 10 male and female reciters to represent the state at the 2026 national competition in Jigawa State. The winners emerged from a state-level competition in Benin City that involved approximately 1,000 students participating across local government and senatorial district levels.
The selected participants will undergo a one-month training camp focused on improving memorization and fluency in preparation for the national contest. Officials stated the competition aims to encourage children to learn the Qur’an, promote Islamic knowledge, and foster moral discipline and unity among Muslims.
Recent reforms have decentralized the competition to ensure participation across all three senatorial districts, including Edo South and Edo Central, rather than concentrating activities in Edo North. This shift was intended to make the program more inclusive of Muslims throughout the state.
