The trailer for Edoardo Gabbriellini’s film *The City of the Living* (Italian: *La città dei vivi*) has been released. The drama, freely inspired by Nicola Lagioia’s award‑winning novel, recounts the 2016 murder of 23‑year‑old Luca Varani in Rome and uses the case to explore broader social and emotional tensions.

The film will compete in the Orizzonti section of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival and is slated for an Italian theatrical release on 1 October. It is distributed in Italy by Eagle Pictures and co‑produced by Eagle Pictures, Cinemaundici and Lungta Film, with participation from HBO Max. The cast features Emanuele Maria Di Stefano as Luca, Valerio Mastandrea, Gaia Merlonghi, Simona Senzacqua and Roberta Mattei.

Piperplay, a joint venture between PiperFilm and Playtime, has also boarded sales for the film ahead of its world premiere.
