Brazil energy sector sees major corporate shifts and infrastructure investments

The Brazilian energy landscape is undergoing significant restructuring through major acquisitions and infrastructure developments. EDP has finalized the acquisition of 100% of EDP Renováveis Brasil for 990 million euros (approximately 5.6 billion reais). This move aims to integrate production, trading, and electricity supply activities to enhance competitiveness in the Brazilian free energy market.

In a separate transaction, Neoenergia, controlled by Iberdrola, has sold its remaining 25% stake in the Dardanelos hydroelectric plant in Mato Grosso to funds managed by Itaú Asset Management. The deal is expected to generate approximately R$ 400 million in cash for Neoenergia and includes the settlement of a R$ 265.8 million loan.

Infrastructure expansion continues with the New Development Bank (NDB) providing R$ 722 million to CTG Brasil for the Serra da Palmeira wind complex in Paraíba. Additionally, ANEEL has approved new auctions for energy storage systems, and a major transmission auction is set to attract R$ 8.9 billion in investments across seven Brazilian states to strengthen the national power grid.
