EDP launches global innovation program for future electrical grids

EDP has opened applications for the ‘Redes do Futuro’ (Grids of the Future) module of its Energy Starter global innovation program. The application period for this 10th edition runs until August 23, 2026.

The program aims to accelerate the adoption of technologies that drive the energy transition. It specifically seeks innovative solutions to increase the capacity and flexibility of electrical grids, improve operational monitoring and control, speed up infrastructure development, and enhance grid resilience against extreme weather events.

Since its inception in 2016, the Energy Starter program has facilitated collaboration between EDP and startups or scaleups worldwide. Through various open innovation initiatives, the company has launched over 200 pilot projects, achieved 45 commercial implementations, and made 30 venture capital investments, representing approximately 140 million euros in business opportunities.
