EDP to install Singapore’s first suspended photovoltaic structure
EDP and JTC Corporation have announced a partnership to install Singapore’s first suspended photovoltaic system. The pilot project involves placing solar panels on a structure suspended between multi-story industrial buildings, utilizing approximately 4,300 square meters of previously unused space.
The installation will have a capacity of up to 455 kilowatt-peak (kWp). EDP will manage the design, construction, operation, and testing of the facility. Once operational, which is expected in the first half of 2028, the electricity produced will be injected into Singapore’s national grid for a period of ten years.
This initiative aims to demonstrate how solar energy can be generated in dense urban environments where land scarcity limits conventional projects. The project supports Singapore’s goal of reaching 3 gigawatt-peak (GWp) of installed solar capacity by 2030. Finn Tay, Sustainability Director at JTC, noted that the project results may guide the expansion of such solutions to other industrial complexes.
