Edremit Book Fair opens in Balıkesir

The 8th Edremit Book Fair has opened at the Altınkum Fairground in Balıkesir, Turkey. Organized by the Edremit Municipality under the theme ‘Book Under the Shadow of the Immortal Tree’, the event features 145 publishing houses and approximately 380 participants, including authors, poets, journalists, and academics.

Notable attendees included Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Akın and Edremit Mayor Mehmet Ertaş. The fair’s guests of honor include Prof. Dr. Celal Şengör and Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özer. During the opening ceremony, Mayor Akın expressed his goal to establish Balıkesir as a city of festivals and culture, moving beyond its reputation for tourism, agriculture, and industry.

Mayor Ertaş emphasized the connection between the region's cultural identity, represented by the olive tree, and the importance of literature. The event is scheduled to continue until August 23.
