Two Young Drivers Killed in Edremit Car Accident

A single-vehicle crash occurred on a rural road in the Altınkum neighbourhood of Edremit, Balıkesir Province, Turkey. The car plunged into a nearby stream, trapping the occupants.

Rescue teams recovered the bodies of two 26‑year‑old passengers, identified as Serkan B and Gizem K, who were pronounced dead at the scene. A 24‑year‑old woman, referred to as B K, survived after shouting for help; she was pulled from the vehicle, taken to hospital and treated for injuries.

The incident prompted a large emergency response, including police, fire, and medical units. The vehicle, bearing licence plate 06 DL 21505, was retrieved from the water. Following the accident, the night‑shift public prosecutor opened a broad investigation into the cause of the crash.
