Edson Álvarez denies allegations of COVID-19 vaccine certificate fraud
West Ham United and Mexican national team footballer Edson Álvarez has issued a statement categorically rejecting allegations of involvement in a fraudulent COVID-19 vaccination certificate ring. The accusations were made by producer Juan José López Ordóñez, who claims that Álvarez, his former father-in-law Jonathan Toache, and a doctor created a platform called ‘Resistencia’ to issue falsified certificates during the pandemic.
López Ordóñez alleges the network used hacked data, including batch numbers and vaccine names, to generate documents with QR codes and official seals for high-profile individuals, artists, and businesspeople without them receiving actual vaccinations. This follows previous accusations by the producer claiming Álvarez was involved in his kidnapping in November 2024 and owed him 3.5 million pesos for an unreleased documentary.
In his response, Álvarez stated that his name and image have been repeatedly used to generate media coverage for situations that do not involve him. He described the claims as completely foreign to his conduct and expressed the need to speak out against the growing media scrutiny.
