Edson Álvarez denies involvement in alleged kidnapping

Mexican footballer Edson Álvarez, who plays for West Ham United, has issued a formal statement categorically denying accusations of involvement in a kidnapping. The allegations were made by audiovisual producer Juan José López Ordóñez, who claims he was a victim of an express kidnapping in Mexico City in November 2024.

López Ordóñez alleges the incident stemmed from a financial dispute involving 3.5 million pesos related to a documentary project about Álvarez's career. The producer further claims the kidnapping was orchestrated by the family of Álvarez's former father-in-law, Jonathan Toache Bedolla, and suggested the player had knowledge of the events. The dispute also reportedly involves a real estate conflict regarding a property valued at 30 million pesos.

In his response, Álvarez stated that his name and image have been used to generate media attention regarding conflicts that are entirely unrelated to him. He emphasized that serious criminal accusations should be presented to the proper authorities with evidence rather than through media statements. Álvarez has instructed his legal team to evaluate and pursue legal action against those spreading false imputations to protect his reputation.
