Edson Álvarez accused of fraud and kidnapping in documentary dispute

Mexican footballer Edson Álvarez and his former father-in-law, Jonathan Toache Bedolla, are facing legal accusations of fraud, kidnapping, and threats. The allegations were brought forward by audiovisual producer Juan José López Ordóñez.

López Ordóñez claims the dispute stems from an unfinished documentary project about Álvarez’s career, which allegedly involved an investment of 3.5 million pesos. The producer asserts that the project was managed with the knowledge of Álvarez through Toache Bedolla. Beyond the financial dispute, López Ordóñez alleges he was kidnapped in Mexico City in November 2024, held for six hours, and forced to sign documents.

Legal representative Gerardo Rincón confirmed that two investigation files currently exist regarding fraud and kidnapping, with a third complaint for threats being prepared. Edson Álvarez has issued a statement categorically rejecting any link to the alleged misconduct, stating that if there are elements to prove wrongdoing, they should be presented before the proper authorities.
