EdTech growth in Asia driven by hybrid models and gamification

The Asian EdTech sector is experiencing significant shifts, characterized by diverse business models and technological innovations. In India, PhysicsWallah has emerged as a notable success story by utilizing a hybrid ‘phygital’ model. This approach combines an online application with offline PW Vidyapeeth centres and hybrid batches, focusing on affordability and accessibility for JEE, NEET, and UPSC coaching. The company reported FY25 revenue of approximately ₹2,887 crore, a 49% year-on-year increase, while narrowing its net loss to ₹243 crore from ₹1,131 crore in the previous fiscal year.

Across the broader Asian landscape, there is a growing trend toward game-based learning to increase student engagement. Companies such as India’s BYJU’S and Cuemath, Indonesia’s Ruangguru, and South Korea’s Mathpresso are leading various digital initiatives. In Pakistan, The Knowledge Platform is implementing competitive learning through platforms like Bonzo and Sitarey, which offers over 200 curriculum-aligned educational games for students in grades 3 to 11.
