Edu Cigano: Renowned samba singer and composer dies in Niterói

The samba community in Niterói is mourning the death of singer and composer Edu Cigano, also known as Eduzinho. The artist, who was a significant figure in the regional Carnival scene, was buried on Thursday at the Maruí Cemetery in Barreto.

Cigano had a long career, having composed approximately 100 sambas across various styles, including samba-enredo and more rhythmic “meio de ano” compositions. He was notably associated with several prominent groups, including Acadêmicos do Cubango, Souza Soares, and Em Cima da Hora. He also served as the singer for the Bloco Carnavalesco Filhos da Pauta for the 2025 and 2026 Carnival seasons.

In recognition of his contributions, the Bloco Filhos da Pauta has announced plans to honor his memory during the 2027 Carnival by including his name in the lyrics of their parade theme.
