Eduard Daniel Martínez Pinzón jailed for Yopal ex-mayor murder

Colombian authorities have sent Eduard Daniel Martínez Pinzón to prison following his involvement in the assassination of Jhon Jairo Torres Torres, the former mayor of Yopal, known as ‘Jhon Calzones’.

According to the Fiscalía General de la Nación, Martínez Pinzón traveled from Tunja to Casanare to locate the victim and identify the site for the attack. He is accused of transporting a minor on a motorcycle to a rural farm in Yopal, where the teenager allegedly shot Torres.

During the escape, the motorcycle reportedly accelerated abruptly, causing an accident. While Martínez Pinzón managed to flee the immediate scene, the minor was detained by local residents and handed over to authorities. Martínez Pinzón was captured in Tunja during a joint operation by the CTI and the National Police. He has been charged with homicide with aggravating circumstances but did not accept the charges. The minor involved has accepted responsibility and remains in a specialized detention center.
