Eduardo Bolsonaro dismissed from Federal Police for abandonment of office
The Brazilian Ministry of Justice and Public Security has officially dismissed Eduardo Bolsonaro from his position as a Federal Police clerk due to abandonment of office. The decision, signed by Minister Wellington César Lima e Silva and published in the Official Gazette, follows an administrative disciplinary process that found he had more than 30 consecutive days of unjustified absences.
Bolsonaro, a former federal deputy for São Paulo, had been on leave from the Federal Police to serve in the Chamber of Deputies. However, his parliamentary mandate was revoked in December 2025 for failing to attend more than one-third of the deliberative sessions. Following the loss of his mandate, he was required to return to his duties as a clerk, but he did not report for work, having moved to the United States in early 2025.
This administrative dismissal coincides with significant legal developments. The Supreme Federal Court (STF) recently rejected an appeal against his conviction for coercion in the course of a process, a sentence involving four years and two months in a semi-open prison regime. Additionally, the court has ruled him ineligible for public office until 2038.
