Flávio Bolsonaro authorized to visit Jair Bolsonaro in house arrest

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has authorized Senator Flávio Bolsonaro to resume visits to his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is currently serving a sentence under house arrest in Brasília. The decision ends a 90-day suspension that was imposed in July after Flávio shared a political letter written by his father on social media, which was deemed a violation of judicial restrictions.

Moraes maintained strict conditions for the visits, prohibiting them from being used for political or electoral purposes. Furthermore, the disclosure of any political manifestos or statements from Jair Bolsonaro, whether by him or third parties, remains strictly forbidden. Flávio Bolsonaro, a presidential candidate in the upcoming second-round runoff against Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, stated he intends to visit his father in his capacity as both son and lawyer.

Separately, Eduardo Bolsonaro has expressed his intention to work with the U.S. government to reinstate Magnitsky Act sanctions against Justice Moraes should Flávio Bolsonaro win the 2026 presidency. He noted that the previous sanctions, which included asset freezes and visa cancellations, were revoked following diplomatic efforts by President Lula.
