Eduardo Bolsonaro's Rio apartment set for auction by Caixa

The Caixa Econômica Federal will auction a 101 m² apartment in Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro, that belonged to former federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro. The property, located on Avenida Pasteur, was purchased in June 2017 for about R$ 1 million, with roughly 80 % financed by Caixa. After the deputy failed to pay the financing installments, the bank seized the unit, transferred title to itself in March 2026 and scheduled the public auction for 20 August 2026. Caixa values the apartment at R$ 1.01 million but set the opening bid at R$ 644,300, a discount of about 36 %. The mortgage record shows a pending judicial block ordered by Supreme Court minister Alexandre de Moraes in July 2025, related to investigations into Eduardo’s alleged lobbying for U.S. sanctions against Brazil. Bolsonaro has been living in the United States since early 2025 and was sentenced in June 2026 by the Supreme Court to four years and two months for co‑ordination of external pressure on the judiciary. The auction will be conducted online and the winning bidder must assume any existing liens.
