Eduardo Costa recounts childhood poverty and struggles
Brazilian sertanejo singer Eduardo Costa has shared details regarding the extreme poverty he experienced during his childhood. In an interview with LeoDias TV, the artist described his upbringing in Abre Campo and Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, as “an hell” where he lacked basic necessities such as food and hygiene.
Costa stated that he often lacked sufficient food, noting that at ages 10 or 11, his family could sometimes afford rice but not beans. To cope with hunger, he revealed that he resorted to inhaling shoemaker's glue. He also mentioned that these hardships led him to work as a street vendor selling items like popsicles and vegetables, and at one point, he lived on the streets and engaged in petty crime.
His life began to change around the age of 15 when he discovered music, eventually starting his professional career in 1990.
