Eduardo Girão defends five-year senatorial mandates

Senator Eduardo Girão has advocated for reducing senatorial mandates from 10 to 5 years. He stated that an amendment he authored, which proposed this reduction, has effectively stalled a Constitutional Amendment Proposal (PEC) introduced by Senator Jorge Kajuru.

The Kajuru proposal aims to abolish reelection and unify various electoral cycles, including those for mayors, governors, and the presidency. Girão noted that the amendment led Senate President Davi Alcolumbre to shelve the project.
