Eduardo Maglioni, record-breaking footballer, dies at 80

Former professional footballer Eduardo Andrés Maglioni has passed away at the age of 80 in Jujuy, Argentina, following complications from a heart surgery. Born in Reconquista, Maglioni achieved international fame as a striker, most notably during his tenure with Club Atlético Independiente.

Maglioni holds a Guinness World Record for scoring three consecutive goals in just 111 seconds during a match against Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata on March 18, 1973. During his career with Independiente, he won six titles, including two Copa Libertadores (1972, 1973), one Copa Interamericana (1972), and the Intercontinental Cup (1973).

In addition to his success in Argentina with clubs such as San Lorenzo and Huracán, he played internationally in Colombia for Millonarios, Atlético Nacional, and Unión Magdalena. His legacy is commemorated in his hometown of Reconquista with a sculpture in the Plaza 25 de Mayo.
